I've been thinking - 1 November 2020

posted date: Friday 30th October 2020

IRecently, I have been reading through the Psalms in the mornings. I confess that I have found them very real and at times, confronting in terms of how honest the Psalmist is with God.

This week, I came across this verse - 42:8 “By day the Lord commands His steadfast love, and at night His song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.”

I paused after reading this verse to consider the truth of what this was saying.  God commands His steadfast love, with the sense that He commands it towards us. Then at night, God’s song or His singing is with me.  Imagine going to sleep at night with the thought that as we sleep God is even thinking of us.

Yet as I write this, it does not mean that God will made everything right, but rather no matter what the circumstances we are in, God knows and God is with us.  Again from the well known Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff — they comfort me.”

So as you pause today and consider the circumstances of your life, the good, the difficult, the seemingly unresolvable, consider the words of the Psalms, that God IS with us. As some of the lyrics of “The Blessing” remind us, God is for us, He is not against.  Amen

For this, I am very very grateful.
