I've been thinking - 28 June 2020

posted date: Friday 26th June 2020

It was 1964, and then young Bob Dylan released his third album with the title track, “The times they are a’changing”.

It certainly feels that way at the moment. The ongoing changes because of COVID-19, have changed so many aspects of life, in many subtle and profound ways. And Bob Dylan’s words are never more apt.

Yet, in the midst of change and uncertainty, I keep coming back to reality that God knows all that is happening, and that none of this is a surprise to Him. I love the final chapters of Job, where God speaks to Job and asks Job if he knows the fashioning of the earth, and the secrets of the hidden recesses of the earth.

Therefore, no matter how you are feeling, no matter what decisions lie before you, the truth is:

God still loves us - 1 John 3:1 “See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are.”

He will work out everything according to His purpose - Isaiah 46:9—10 “Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, “My purpose shall stand, and I will fulfill my intention.”

Lord Jesus, fulfil your purposes both in our lives, and in this part of your body we pray. Amen.
