I am grateful ... 22 December 2019

posted date: Friday 20th December 2019

With this year fast coming to a close it is a time for looking back over the previous year, and also look forward to 2020. So here are some of my thoughts:

As a city, I suspect that 2019 will always be remembered for March 15th.  Like the previous earthquakes, many of us will remember where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news of what had occurred in our city. I suspect, this is an event that has shaken us more than we know, quietly shaping our thinking and attitudes.

As a church, this has been a year in which God has been working away quietly in people’s lives. I continue to hear stories of what God is doing, in sometimes amazing ways. While these stories are not always publicly known, it does not change their significance in the person’s life, nor in fact that God is working among us.

It was also the year we sent a team to Bangladesh, and I pray that this will become an ongoing connection that is fruitful for both us and Ross and Cindy Meyer.

For me personally, it has been a year in which we have had some serious sorrows and wonderful moments. But through it all, we continue to see the faithfulness of God at hand.

As we look forward to 2020, we anticipate the changes to two services in February, the continued search for an assistant pastor, and ongoing surprising work of the triune God in our midst.

So this Christmas, Karen and I wish you all fullness of God’s goodness, the joy of knowing the risen Christ, and the fruit of Spirit overwhelming you with the wonder of the nature of the God we worship.

Let me leave you with this wonderful promise from the apostle Paul’s writing:

I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6 )
