I've been Thinking - 16 June 2019

posted date: Friday 14th June 2019

This Sunday is the last week of our Missions Month.

It has been wonderful to have John and Susan with us, and to have them share at a number of events during the last two weeks. Their insights and experience certainly showed through.

We will be concluding the theme “Where God leads” this Sunday, and also start to collect funds in the special Prayer and Self Denial Offering. Funds raised are used by the New Zealand Baptist Missionary Society for in their ongoing work both in the NZ office and supporting those who have been called to serve overseas.

But more importantly is the question of this year’s theme, “Where is God leading you?”

What is it that God has been speaking to you about and, more importantly, how will you respond?

You may think that what you sense God is asking you to do is small and insignificant, but in obedience to God … it can make all the difference. The Bible is littered with stories of people making small decisions of obedience to God, that are then multiplied with God’s blessing. Some examples:

1 Kings 17:8-16— A widow who shared her dying meal with the prophet Elijah to find God continued to supply meal and oil until the drought was finished.

Matthew 14:13-21— A young lad gives Jesus five loaves of bread and two fish and Jesus feeds 5,000 men plus women and children.

Judges 7 – God whittles the army of Israel from a large company to 300 to, through God’s strength, defeat their enemies.

Dare we trust God, that the small offerings, the small leading of His Spirit, that God will take and use in ways far beyond what we can think or imagine.

Food for thought.
