I've been Thinking - 31 March 2019

Good morning, and welcome to Russley School for our 5th Sunday of the month service.

One of the things I love about Jesus, is that in His ministry on earth, He related to the normal person, the you and me of the world, and showed us what God, His Father was like.  And in this we see a God of love and compassion who cares deeply for humanity, and understands our everyday lives.

Jesus knows us, understands the complexity of our lives and welcomes us.  Jesus said Matthew 11:28—30“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

The first part of Jesus’ words is critical, we first need to come to Him.  Come as we are, honestly expressing our need of Him in the midst of life.  The most important step, is simply to acknowledge that we are weary, carrying the burdens of life, and that we cannot simply carry on in our own strength.

And I love what Jesus says about Himself, “for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

So as you come to worship this Sunday, come knowing that Jesus is waiting for us to come to Him. And I pray you will find the rest that can only be found in Him.
