Others have been thinking … and praying

posted date: Friday 1st March 2019

As a member of the Baptist family of churches, and believing that God has gifted every person to be a part of His church, changes the way we do things sometimes.

Last year, at the Baptist Hui (our National Gathering), Craig Vernal who had been our national leader for the past seven years, stepped down from the role.

The Assembly Council (the National Governance Board) tasked a call committee to prepare and seek out applications for this important role with the view of bringing a candidate to both Assembly Council and the board of the Missionary Society (they each have separate constitutions). If both of these boards agree then a candidate’s name will be brought to the Baptist Churches of New Zealand.

And this is what happened last week, when the name of Charles Hewlett was recommended to the churches of New Zealand.  For those who are interested, a copy of Charles’s biography and the recommendation from Assembly Council are available from the church office.

Please pray for Charles and his family as the vote is processed. For the churches of New Zealand, that we would together discern the mind of Christ. Finally, for the elders as we pray about how to vote in this matter.  Your feedback in the next few days would be appreciated.

Shalom
