I've been Thinking - 3 February 2019

posted date: Friday 1st February 2019

We live today in an environment in which health and safety needs to be considered in everything you do.

As I have reflected on this, I wonder if being a Christian should also come with its own health and safety warning.  Consider the words of Jesus:

Luke 9:23—24 “Then he said to them all, ‘If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it.’”

There is a potential issue right there, losing your life.  This is a physical reality for many Christians around the world today.

John 13:34—35 “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Taken at face value, there are no limits here. Jesus didn’t say love those who are nice to you, who you like. We are called to love all our brothers and sisters, and that clearly creates the potential for conflict and friction.

So as you ponder these things, what is it that God is speaking to you about, what area of your life is He shaping, moulding, challenging and asking that you surrender to Him?

Food for thought.
