I've been Thinking - 2 December 2018

posted date: Friday 30th November 2018

So, this week is the start of December. They say time goes quicker the older you get, and it certainly seems as though this year has tracked through very quickly.

And with December comes the expectations of end of the year functions, preparation for Christmas and then for some holidays, and then into a New Year.

As you consider all that this means, pause for a moment, and consider that this pattern of times and seasons, Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, etc, provide us with rhythms and frameworks within which we remember the wonders of God’s love to us.  We start with Jesus’ birth through to His death and resurrection, and then the sending of His Spirit to empower the church for mission at Pentecost.

And as Christmas looms, and I write about mission, and Jesus’ story, we are in good company. Paul writes 1 Corinthians 1: 22–24For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

So as you prepare for Christmas, consider that we are preparing to celebrate and retell the story of God’s great love to us. And this story never gets old!
