I've been Thinking - 2 September 2018

posted date: Friday 31st August 2018

About 1964, Bob Dylan wrote a song that has in some ways described the subsequent 50 years. The last line of each verse simply said:

“For the times they are a-changin'.”

How true this is, as changes are happening all around us.

We are seeing changes at the international level. England is leaving the European Union, China has a president who is changing the international power balance and the USA has a president that people either love or hate.

At a personal level, as individuals we are more connected via the internet and social media than any other point in history. Yet ironically, people are feeling more alone, isolated, and there is an alarming growth of anxiety in western culture. We are told how Gen X, Millennials and the next generation Gen Z, think and act and believe differently to past generations. For many people it is completely confusing.

In the midst of all of this, I keep asking the question, what is God saying?

I am reminded of Jesus words John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” and Jesus words earlier in John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

So as you walk through life, and maybe struggle with all the changes you see around you, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. He knows the beginning and the end, and He has promised to never leave us or forsake us. He is faithful, trustworthy and true.
