I've been Thinking - 1 April 2018

posted date: Thursday 29th March 2018

It is not without significance that the new logo of the church is a stylised cross. At the heart of the Christian message is what we now call Easter, the death and resurrection of Jesus, which we both remember and proclaim this weekend.

The apostle Paul sums it up this way:

1 Corinthians 1: 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, 23 but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.

The work of Jesus Christ upon the cross expresses the amazing grace and love of God towards us, set against the depth of cost Jesus paid to set us free from the slavery of sin, which causes our separation from God.

And the cross also calls us to take this news and to the nations.  Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

So, as you prepare for this Easter, no matter where or what you are doing, ponder, reflect and ask God, what the work of Jesus upon the cross means for you? And what part is God calling me to play in His call to “Disciple the Nations across the Ages”?
